FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TIM HARRIS Named “Most Huggable Person of 2016” for January 21st National Hugging Day™!
Caro, MI, January 20, 2016 – Tim Harris of Albuquerque, New Mexico, known for freely giving “Tim’s Hugs” and a celebrated Special Olympian who hugged U.S. President Obama, was today named “Most Huggable Person of 2016” for National Hugging Day™! Tim’s vision is to change the world with his hugs. In fact, Tim hosted the first annual Hug-A-Thon in 2014, where he hugged more than 1,000 people and raised $6,000 in three days for a local charity. In 2015, Tim set a new goal: 2,000 hugs and $10,000. In just four days he beat the goal by hugging more than 2,000 people and earned $13,000 in donations. This coveted award was presented by the Ambassador of Hugs, Kevin Zaborney, founder and creator of National Hugging Day.™
The Most Huggable Person Award coincides with this month’s National Hugging Day™ held annually on January 21st. National Hugging Day™ was created to encourage people around the world to show more affection in public through hugging. There is only one way you are supposed to celebrate the holiday: offer a hug to anyone, especially family and friends. Kevin Zaborney suggests asking first before hugging!
Past winners of the Most Huggable Awards have included Baymax from Disney’s “Big Hero 6” award-winning animated feature film; Joan Rivers who wrote after receiving her award, "I'm tempted to start saying 'Can we hug?' instead of 'Can we talk'" alluding to her participating in a telephone company ad; Jeff Ondash (aka Teddy McHuggins); Tessla Queen (bingtopia.com); and Mata Amritanandamayi (Kerela, India known as the "Hugging Saint").
About National Hugging Day:
National Hugging Day,™ also known as National Hug Day, International Hug Day, and Global Hug Day, is an annual holiday created by Rev. Kevin Zaborney in Michigan, USA. It occurs every January 21st and is officially recognized by the United States Copyright Office. It was first celebrated in 1986 and is now celebrating its 30th year in existence. The fun and important event has since spread around the globe to multiple countries. The purpose of the holiday is to encourage people to openly express themselves through hugging. Offer a hug to anyone and everyone you want but remember it is wise to ask first. Whether you hug a family member or a stranger, the mental and physical health benefits are the same. Hugging reduces stress and blood pressure as examples of health benefits.
